What is the West Melbourne-Brevard County Joint CRA?
A joint city and county redevelopment agency covers West Melbourne's main commercial corridors and pays for road and infrastructure upgrades there.
West Melbourne's Community Redevelopment Area follows three business corridors: Wickham Road, Ellis Road and New Haven Avenue. Parts of the area are inside city limits and parts are in unincorporated Brevard County, so it is run as a partnership between the two governments.
The West Melbourne-Brevard County Joint Community Redevelopment Agency aims to support job creation, commercial occupancy and private development. Its long term objectives include roadway and infrastructure improvements and developer partnerships along the city's main gateways.
The city describes the CRA's purpose as stimulating economic development and funding community improvement projects. Community redevelopment agencies are generally funded through a redevelopment trust fund that receives tax increment under section 163.387, Florida Statutes. The city's Planning and Economic Development office answers questions about business assistance programs.
