What is the Viera Stewardship District?
West Viera property sits inside a legislatively created special district that pays for drainage, lighting and habitat upkeep across about 13,400 acres.
According to the Viera Stewardship District, it was set up to provide funding and long-term maintenance for public infrastructure tied to the West Viera Development of Regional Impact. Its work includes aquatic weed control, street lighting and habitat maintenance in the Viera Wilderness Park.
The district covers about 13,441.6 acres, bounded by the Eight-Mile Canal on the north and the River Lakes Conservation Area on the west and south. A five member Board of Supervisors governs it under Chapter 2006-360, Laws of Florida.
Three supervisors are elected by landowners and two are elected in Brevard County general elections. Buyers in West Viera can check the property tax bill for any district assessments.
