How does rezoning work for property inside Melbourne city limits?
A Melbourne rezoning starts with an online application to the city, then goes through public hearings before the Planning and Zoning Board and the City Council.
The City of Melbourne takes all zoning applications online through its EnerGov system, and the city recommends a pre-application meeting with Planning staff first.
According to the city's Zoning FAQs, a rezoning goes through public hearings before the Planning and Zoning Board and the City Council at City Hall, 900 E. Strawbridge Avenue. The city posts signs on the property and mails notices to owners within 500 feet.
Under Sec. 2-24 of the City Code, the Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
