Does a business in Melbourne need a local business tax receipt?
Yes. A business operating inside Melbourne city limits needs a city Business Tax Receipt for each location, plus a Brevard County Business Tax Receipt.
The City of Melbourne requires a Business Tax Receipt before a business begins operating inside city limits, and each place of business needs its own receipt. A $25 nonrefundable application fee is applied toward the first year's tax.
The application instructions call for any required state license and proof of fictitious name registration or an exemption. Brevard County also requires a county Business Tax Receipt, issued through the Brevard County Tax Collector.
