Who is responsible for getting building permits in Cocoa Beach?
Cocoa Beach places permit responsibility on the property owner rather than the contractor, so an owner can be cited when work starts without one.
The Cocoa Beach Building Division places responsibility for obtaining building permits on property owners, not contractors. If work begins without a permit, the owner may be cited.
Permits are needed for most projects, including air conditioning replacements, docks and boat lifts, fences, hurricane shutters, window replacements and balcony restoration.
The city's permit procedures also require permits for seawalls, docks and dune walkovers. The chief building official can issue a stop work order or revoke a permit when work exceeds its scope or unlicensed work is found.
