Can Heirs Inherit a Property under a Reverse Mortgage?


Heirs, such as a spouse, children, or people named in estate planning documents, may have rights to the home after the borrower dies. A reverse mortgage is still a loan and must be paid in full to avoid foreclosure.

After a reverse mortgage borrower dies, their “heirs” may have rights. Heirs are people with legal rights to the property of another after that person's death, such as a husband, wife, children, and people's names in estate planning documents.
